Day 1

On our schedule today was learning how to surf and experiencing the ocean on the deck of a catamaran. The day started with us being separated into two groups, where the first group started with surfing lessons, and the other group with the catamaran trip.

On the catamaran trip, we were looking to see if we saw some dolphins or whales. Unfortunately, none of the group did so. However, one of the group got to see a sea turtle and flying fish. Even if we didn't get to see what we came for, we did had an amazing trip where we could see the beautiful view of Waikiki from out on the ocean.

The surfing lessons where absolutely amazing, and a lot of fun! First we got rash guards for the upper body before some surf instructors showed us on a surfboard what we were going to do once we got in the water. When we all were ready to do so, we started paddling to the waves, and one by one we went to the instructors, who told us when to paddle and when to stand up on the surfboard. There were actually many of us that stood on it and were able to "surf up". It was so much fun!

After these awesome experiences, we hung out on the beach, and could decide when we wanted to go home at a time before 5.15pm. Some people tried to get color on their skin by laying in the sun, others played football in the sand/water.

Later tonight we went out for dinner at a pizza place nearby. One thing that is really cool with Hawaii is that it is so easy to go places because everything is just a walk away. Today was actually one of the exchange students' birthday, so we sang for him at the restaurant - which he really appreciated.

Overall this day was an amazing first day here in Hawaii, and we're all really looking forward to what more this week has to bring!

Sincerely,

Karoline Bernacki from Norway
Marie Løge Pedersen from Norway

(BTW! For those of you that want to join the group on Facebook, the name for it is: "BELO HAWAII March 29th - April 5th)
